  1. I was hoping that Music On Vinyl would do a reissue of this album after hearing the fantastic SQ of their 2014 NL Fuzzy reissue. I have quite a few inferior sounding Plain Recording reissues, eventually I stopped buying from this label. However, this 2015 US reissue of Grant Lee Buffalo’s sophomore album — Mighty Joe Moon turned out to be more than a decent sounding record.

It was mastered for for vinyl by Gary Hobish at A. Hammer Mastering And Digital Media, San Francisco. The sound is surprisingly full, warm and analogue like. The bass is solid and quite punchy. Comparing this to the 2014 NL Fuzzy reissue, Music On Vinyl offered better clarity, higher fidelity, tighter and punchier bass while sounding more digital like.

I do like the warmer sound of this Plain Recording reissue but it could really benefit from a dynamic boost as it was pressed by Rainbo Records.A better pressing plant for the next reissue please…
