  1. Nick Drake first three album were reissue in 2012 as an individual box set. The same vinyl record was released as a stand alone vinyl reissues in 2013 as Back To Black Series.

For casual Nick Drake fan, these reissues are probably the best you can get on the cheap — under AUD $30! The SQ is clear, spacious and dynamic with wonderful depths and details. You can hear the resonance in Nick Drake’s guitars and intricacies in his vocals.

As for the more serious Nick Drake fans, you probably better spend your money on the 1969 UK original pressing, the 1976 US Antilles reissue or the 2007 Japanese reissue if you have a deep wallet as these digital remasters are clearly not the analogue wonders you are after, but good luck finding a copy.

According to John Wood — Pink Moon was remastered from the original master tapes (1st gen master) but I found its bass a tad over emphasised. Bryter Layter was mastered from a safety copy of the original master tapes which sounded the most natural and balanced amongst the three and Five Leaves Left from 24/96 hz digital master because the original master tape was unustable.

These digital remasters are not all quiet, make sure you buy them from a retailer where you can return or swap easily. My Five Leaves Left and Bryter Layter are quiet but Pink Moon was extremely noisy, luckily, the replacement was quiet too.

Try to avoid the 2013 US reissues though as I have heard the SQ are inferior and not surprising as they were pressed by URP…
